Zim Company fundraise in SA for Cyclone Idia children victims
A Zimbabwean Company based in South Africa, Zororo-Phumulani has participated as one of the sponsors during the Friday, 1 November, 2019 golf tournament with an aim of raising funds to help children who were affected by Cyclone Idai early this year.
Cyclone Idai early this year ravaged parts of Manicaland such as Chipinge and Chimanimani leaving a trail of destructions and killing hundreds of people. Also parts of Mozambique and Malawi were seriously affected by the natural phenomenon.
The well-attended tournament, which took place in the prestigious Houghton Golf Club Johannesburg, was a brain-child of Child’s Call, a non-profit making organisation.
According to the organisation, the event was meant to specifically help children in the cyclone Idai-ravaged Eastern parts of Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi to access decent education.
Speaking on the side-lines of the event, the Zororo-Phumulani, Operations Director, Mr. Brian Makunike said, “The best insurance that we can give to a child is education. Once a child is educated, the child is ensured for life.”
Mr. Makunike also indicated that Zororo-Phumulani highly values ploughing back into the community.
“As Zororo-Phumulani , we believe in giving back to the community. Every year we donate computers to students – both South African and Zimbabwean students,” he said.
“We recently built a state-of-the-art computer lab in North West Province and today we are here to help victims of Cyclone Idai.”
The golf tournament charity event was also attended by Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to South Africa, Mr. Hamadziripi, who, in his keynote address commended the well-intentioned collaboration amongst the companies.
“It is always important when us Zimbabweans living outside the country come together for a good cause,” he said.
The overjoyed ambassador also expressed gratitude towards the main sponsors of the event –as well as Child’s Call for the humanitarian initiative.
“I would like to thank the main sponsors of this event Zororo-Phumulani, Nyaradzo and all the other companies for remembering the children that were affected by Cyclone Idai. Child’s Call you are blessed for coming up with this initiative. This embassy will always come to support such events,” he said.
