GOVERNMENT is looking to stop nurses and other top skilled civil servants from leaving the country by offering them free Wi-fi connection, transport, and accommodation according to a post-cabinet brief.
Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa told the press that Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, through his ministry of Health had come up with a brain drain plug which included the provision of incentives such as Wi-Fi connection, transport, and accommodation
“Cabinet wishes to inform the public that Inter-ministerial committee identified the causes of the brain drain in the health sector and to stem this brain drain a committee was therefore set up to look holistically into the following issues, to accelerate the provision of non-monetary incentives such as staff accommodation, transport, vehicle loans, canteen or cafeteria Wi-Fi facilities that is connectivity and many other incentives,”Mutsvangwa said. The health sector has been bleeding experienced staff from doctors, nurses, and other specialists who have left the country citing poor working conditions, lack of tools of the trade, and equipment in hospitals.

In an effort to push the government to invest in the health services sector, doctors embarked on a strike that pushed for more than 100 days until the government decided to fire all doctors, the same move it employed when nurses downed their gloves.
Doctors earn less than USD$400 a month and have complained saying they can’t even afford to be treated in the same hospitals they work owing to their poor salaries.
Government says free food, Wi-Fi, and transport to work will be able to stop them from seeking jobs in other jurisdictions where their peers earn over USD$1000 per month.
