Child Marriages A Crime

Child marriages are still prevalent in Zimbabwe, of major concern are evangelical groups that belong to indigenous apostolic churches who have consistently been found violating child rights by forcing children into early marriages.

Several months after the sad ordeal of Anna ‘Memory’ Machaya who died trying to give birth at an apostolic sect shrine, a group of young girls are using poetry as a platform to highlight how some bad cultural practices and distressing poverty are the key breeders in early child marriages. They have dedicated themselves to raising awareness about the violation of children’s rights due to forced marriages.

After watching how Covid 19 contributed to the rise in the violation of child rights through forced marriages, the young girls are using poetry as a strategy that can be used in advocating against child abuse which includes forced child marriages and oday on Book  Club Sessions, we look at the subject further.
